Cockpen Table

Craft Week 12-18 May

 

This May, Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler is collaborating with fine furniture maker Asplin Whiteley to create a version of its classic Cockpen table in Macassar ebony as part of the Pimlico Road Series of Craft Week events.  “The Cockpen is a timeless Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler model that lends itself to re imagining as a piece of cabinet making, not just an incredibly useful piece of furniture,” says joint Managing Director, Philip Hooper.  With its clean lines, the Cockpen acts as the perfect vehicle for the rare wood, with the distinctive grain running along the length of the Cockpen’s top and vertically down its edges.  The legs and base rails will also be crafted from Macassar ebony, with the grain pattern deliberately used to highlight the lines, while the X frame will be ebonized for contrast.

“We are delighted to play our part in the Cockpen’s reimagining, combining new materiality and exquisite craftsmanship,” says Aaron Brown, Design Director at Asplin Whiteley.  “The grain and colour of the wood is inherently beautiful and needs no embellishment.  It exudes luxury, evoking a time when chic simple lines where all that was needed to embody quality craftsmanship.  I have always been supportive of exceptional cabinet makers; Asplin Whiteley produce fantastic pieces and deserve a wider audience which hopefully will result from this collaboration,” finishes Hooper.

 

The table will be on display in the Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler Pimlico Road showroom during Craft Week.
